Social League

Take your curling skills to the next level!

Loggerhead’s Social League is a quarterly commitment that gives participants the chance to practice and play with other dedicated members.  Teams in this league are generally a mix of experienced and intermediate players. Less experienced players will be paired with an experienced skip, and will receive some guidance to improve their play.

Not able to commit to an entire quarter of play?  Consider signing up to become a sub! Substitutes are scheduled on a week-by-week basis to cover team-specific player absences.  It’s a great way to stay involved in curling without the weekly commitment.

Why Join?

  • Year-Round Fun: Our club plays 12 months a year! Our leagues run quarterly, so there are plenty of opportunities to play.
  • Flexible Scheduling: Loggerhead members can play either full time or substitute in any Loggerhead Curling Club leagues.
  • GNCC Membership: Club dues include membership in the Grand National Curling Club (our parent association).
  • Competitive Opportunities: Curlers can represent the club at regional and national bonspiels (USA Curling Membership is required for national events)
  • Social: Each member receives a name tag with a fun tag line if desired (ex: Sarah Garcia “Here for the Broomstacking”).  The club also encourages broomstacking, a curling tradition where players get together to socialize over a drink after league games.
  • Leadership Opportunities: Members are eligible to serve in club leadership positions.  All curlers, regardless of position, are encouraged to share their voices and vote in club governance.
  • Notifications and Special Events: Receive email notifications of upcoming league registrations and special events.
  • The Coolest Ice Breaker: The ability to say, “Yes, I belong to a curling club.” Really, who could ask for more??!!

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Social League structured?

Each participating player will be assigned to a team that curls weekly over a roughly 3-month period of time.  Players may opt to sign up for full-time play, or as a substitute. When players sign up, they indicate their expected availability, as well as any weeks they are unable to play.

Are substitutes guaranteed play time?

No, substitutes are not guaranteed play time.  Substitutes are contacted when their weekly availability matches with a team opening.

Do I need to purchase any equipment?

No, you do not need to purchase any equipment to join the league. Loggerhead will provide participants with brooms and sliders for their shoes. Players may choose to purchase their own shoes or brooms, but that is not a requirement to be in the Social League.

When and where does the Social League play?

The Loggerhead Curling Club currently has ice on Sundays between 4pm and 8:45pm at Palm Beach Skate Zone (8125 Lake Worth Rd, Lake Worth, FL 33467).

What is the cost to participate in the Social League as a full-time player or a substitute?

The cost to participate in the Social League as a full-time player varies by season (please click the “Social League Sign Up” below for current pricing).  To participate in the Social League, all players are required to pay a $50 annual club membership. This annual club membership fee covers your Grand National Curling Club (GNCC) insurance, name tags, stone rentals, and club administration fees.

If players choose to participate as a substitute, they will not be required to make payment until after they’ve committed to being a sub for a particular week.  All substitutes are required to pay the annual $50 club membership fee.

How do I sign up?

To sign up for the Social League as a full-time player or a substitute, you will need to first purchase a club annual membership ($50) by clicking the “Club Membership Signup” button below.  Once your annual club membership is active, click the “Social League Sign Up” to join the current league. When you sign up for a season, you can choose to sign up as either a full-time Social League player or as a substitute.  The total amount due for full-time players will be noted on the website.  Once substitutes activate their annual club membership ($50), they will not need to remit further payment until they are assigned to substitute a specific week.

What Should I Wear?

Shoes

No raised heels or flip flops. Running shoes work well as long as the soles are clean.

Pants

Pants that offer easy movement are important as you will be required to stretch and get into some curling positions. Jeans can leave cotton on the ice and should NOT be worn.

Layers

It can be cold on the ice, so we suggest dressing in layers and bringing a light jacket. Gloves and thick socks can also help.
